1. Overview

Summfinity for YouTube ("the Extension") is a Chrome browser extension that summarizes YouTube video transcripts using on-device AI technology. The Extension is designed with privacy as a core principle — all processing occurs entirely within your browser.

2. Data Collection

The Extension does NOT collect, transmit, or store any personal data on external servers. Specifically:

  • No user data is sent to any server or third party
  • No analytics or tracking scripts are included
  • No user accounts or registration are required

3. Data Processing

All data processing occurs locally within your browser:

  • Video transcripts are extracted directly from YouTube's player
  • Summarization is performed locally using on-device AI models
  • No data leaves your device during these processes

4. Local Data Storage

The Extension stores the following data locally on your device:

  • Summary Cache: Generated summaries are cached in IndexedDB within your browser. This cache is limited to 500 entries with a 180-day expiration. This data never leaves your browser and can be cleared by clearing your browser data.
  • User Preferences: Your settings (summary type, length, language preferences) are stored using chrome.storage.sync. This data is synced across your Chrome browsers if you are signed into Chrome, using Google's built-in sync infrastructure. No third party has access to this data.

5. Permissions

The Extension requires the following permissions:

  • "storage": To save your preferences using chrome.storage.sync
  • Host permission for youtube.com: To extract video transcripts from YouTube pages
  • Host permission for summfinity.com: To access the extension's website

6. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not integrate with any third-party services or APIs. All AI processing runs locally on your device:

  • Summarization: Summaries are generated on-device using local AI models

All AI processing runs entirely on your device using local machine learning models. No data is sent to external servers.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
